Riot Games reveals Pride Month plans

On Wednesday, Riot Games – the developer behind esports heavy hitters League of Legends and Valorantrevealed its plans for this year’s Pride Month celebrations. All of Riot’s games, including League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra, Wild Rift, and Valorant, will have unique Pride content like new icons, player cards, trails, and more.

“We want all players to feel their identities are represented. No matter where you live, who you are, or who you love, we want to make sure you can see yourselves while you play,” Riot said in its blog post. “Our champions and agents have their own identities which are representative of our globally diverse playerbase.”

Valorant is getting its own Pride bundle, which includes eight Pride flag-themed player cards and a Gun Buddy. Players can snag this bundle from the in-game store for 0 VP (or purchase individual items from it for VP) until June 20, but can equip the items year round.

Meanwhile, League of Legends players can claim new Pride icons featuring Pengus for one Blue Essence each. Equipping these icons will allow you to activate homeguard trails that look like the flags, which will be active until the end of June.

Players can also unlock three new Pride emotes by completing missions that will pop up in the client starting June 1. Players who use these emotes will also be able to alter their League of Legends profile background art with the new Pride art. Characters from Bilgewater, in particular, have been emphasized so far for this event, and Riot has hinted that players should keep an eye out for a narrative involving them coming soon.

This is a continuation of Riot’s past efforts to celebrate Pride. “In 2018, we introduced the Rainbow Fluft giving queer players a permanent representation of their identities while they play,” Riot said in its blog post. “Over the years, our Pride collection has only grown, with new icons, emotes, and artwork to represent more and more unique identities. We’re committed to making our games, and gaming in general, a more inclusive space for all LGBTQIA+ communities.”
