Apex Legends Awakening Collection event kicks off next week

On Thursday, Apex Legends tweeted a trailer for the next event coming to the battle royale, the Awakening Collection. Like with past Apex events, the Awakening Collection includes event-specific cosmetics, new modes, and a new heirloom to earn. The event starts on June 21.

Several updates are coming with the Awakening Collection. One of the more exciting ones for the community is the return of the Control mode, which will be coming to the World’s Edge map this time, rather than Olympus. Control is a mode that debuted earlier this year in which players are split into two separate teams of nine to battle for, well, control, over a certain point on the map. The mode has been extremely popular, especially amongst professional Apex players, and now will take us to a different map.

After her recent Stories from the Outlands cinematic, Lifeline is also being highlighted in this event. She’s the star of the game’s latest Town Takeover. This is when a section of one of the game’s maps is remodeled to match a specific legend. For Lifeline’s Clinic, a section of Olympus between Gardens and Grow Towers has been set up with special healing equipment as an homage to her. Any injured players can stand on the Med-Bay platform to receive continuous healing, so long as the platform is charged. There’s a display that will let you know if anyone is using the Med-Bay currently, or if it’s charging. Additionally, players will be able to use an Emergency Platform in the back of the clinic to summon a care package for extra loot, though it can only be used once per game.

True to the leaks, Lifeline is also getting some tweaks with this update. The changes include moving the “cancel revive” option from Lifeline to the person she’s reviving, shortening the cooldown for her care package from five minutes to three and a half, increasing the amount and radius of the D.O.C drone’s healing, and more.

The other Legend who’s in the spotlight for this event is Valkyrie, as she’s joining the ranks of Legends who have their own heirloom. Heirlooms in Apex Legends are Mythic-tier cosmetic items that change the appearance of the character’s melee weapon to one of a specific special weapon of theirs. Crypto, for example, has a katana. These cosmetics come in sets with a banner pose and quip for the character as well. Valkyrie’s heirloom is a gold and white spear called the Suzaku. Players can earn it by collecting all 24 event-limited cosmetics.

Speaking of cosmetics, the theme for the Awakening Collection event is “Mechs vs. Monsters.” The skins for this event have Legends split across that binary, with some like Horizon, Loba, and Seer rocking outfits that look very Power Rangers inspired, while the likes of Ash, Mad Maggie, and Fuse are wearing more monstrous looks. 24 in total will be available during the event via direct purchase using Apex Coins or through event loot boxes.
