Arcade Spirits: The New Challengers to release in May 2022
The original Arcade Spirits grabbed us by the throat when it first released back in 2019 – and for good reason, what with its fun story and diverse romance options. Now its sequel, Arcade Spirits: The New Challengers has finally revealed a release date – May 27th, 2022.
In the timeline of Arcade Spirits (and this goes for The New Challengers too), the popularity of arcades never went away and are as well-loved as ever. Instead of being an arcade worker though, Arcade Spirits: The New Challengers puts players in the shoes of an aspiring gamer who wants to make it big. Their opportunity to do so comes to fruition when they find out about the Fist of Discomfort 2 Pro Tour, but if they’re to enter, they’ll need to find a partner to play with.
Finding your partner to go up against rival teams won’t be easy, but that’s where the romance (and friendship, if that’s not your thing!) element comes in. The cast features the following characters:
- Domino – A shy individual who struggles to form real attachments. While he may sometimes have a bleak outlook on life he will do anything for his friends.
- Grace – A genius in her own right, she helped develop several pieces of innovative technology but prefers the life of an indie game developer.
- Jynx – Don’t let the icy stare scare you away. Jynx can come across as intimidating but in reality, she’s just pragmatic while showing a fierce loyalty to those close to her and their needs.
- Locksley – The thief with a heart of gold. As his namesake suggests, Locksley loves nothing more than helping those in need whilst attempting to bring down big corporations.
- Rhapsody – Knows everything there is to know about strategy. They are an expert in all things Fist of Discomfort related and a top-notch shoutcaster to top it off!
- Zapper – To say that she is passionate would be an understatement. Zapper is highly competitive and likes to do everything at 110%.
You’ll get the chance to learn more about the diverse cast of The New Challengers through talking to them, and each has their own unique storyline that you’ll uncover in conversation, and through progressing the story. Who will be your partner as you go up against your rivals – it’s up to you to decide!
Speaking of rivals, not only will players be able to customize themselves (thanks to a much-improved character creator) but the rival you’ll be competing against in the tournament. We’ve also heard that, depending on a few things, you’ll even be able to have a romantic entanglement with the rival too… We do love a good enemies to lovers trope, don’t we?
Pre-orders of Arcade Spirits: The New Challengers are now officially open, with physical pre-orders being available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5.
