Haven update adds same sex couple options
Haven, a sci-fi romance adventure featuring the couple Yu and Kay, has received an update that allows players to choose same-sex couple options.
Originally released in December 2020, the story of Haven follows Yu and Kay. The couple previously gave up everything and escaped to a new planet in order to be together. However, when the game first released Yu and Kay could only be played as a heterosexual couple, aka, as a man and a woman.
The Game Bakers announced yesterday that, with this new update, queer players would be able to see themselves in Haven. How? By allowing players to choose whether Yu or Kay would be either a man or a woman. This means players are able to choose to play the story as either two men, two women or a man and a woman.
The couple update will not change the main storyline of Haven. The only difference is that there will now be an option for players to choose what couple they can play as. Art and voice acting has also been updated to include the same-sex couple versions of Yu and Kay.
“We’re very happy to be able to provide the lovers’ story in two new ways that more players can identify with. We’re looking forward to seeing which Yu and Kay you will play, as you enjoy the two lovers’ adventures on planet Source (and catch up with Oink!).” The Game Bakers explain in their blog post about the update.
The update breathes fresh new life to the adventure RPG. More importantly, it allows queer gamers a chance to take part in a romantic game where they can see themselves.
The couple update for Haven is available now on all platforms.
