Dead by Daylight is getting its very own board game

Level 99 Games is bringing the thrill of the kill to the tabletop, and it’s all because of their partnership with Behaviour Interactive. Together, they plan to release a Dead by Daylight board game, based on the hit asymmetrical, multiplayer horror video game. It is officially titled Dead by Daylight: The Board Game.

The board game aims to be the tabletop version of Dead by Daylight, meaning that two to four players will take on the roles of Survivors, while one player will take on the role of the savage Killer and hunt the Survivors down. Described as “fast-paced”, Survivors will need to search for and then repair the generators to escape their arduous Trial. As for the Killer, they must anticipate the Survivor’s moves and put a stop to them accomplishing their goals by sacrificing them, one by one.

For players of the original game, there will be a lot of familiar staples of the video game included in the Dead by Daylight board game. For example, players will recognize the distinctive Survivor and Killer items, such as flashlights, keys, traps, health kits, etc, as well as perks, interactive props – such as the generator – and the different trial maps.

The game is being developed and designed by Level 99 Games, an acclaimed publisher of board and card games, such as Bullet and Sakura Arms. “As fans of the original video game, we worked hard to capture the tension between the Survivors and the Killer on every turn,” says D. Brad Talton Jr, the designer behind the game. “The moment when you commit to your move and then have to hold your breath while the Killer makes their play—to me that’s the essence of Dead by Daylight.

Dead by Daylight: The Board Game will come with distinctive minis of both Killers and Survivors

Dead by Daylight: The Board Game is accessible for players of all skill levels, so even if you’ve never played the video game before, there is still a wide variety of play options that’ll allow you to tailor the game to you and other players tastes.

The board game will be available for pre-order on Kickstarter when the project goes live. What may excite players and die-hard fans to hear is that there are two versions of the game on offer – the standard edition, priced at $49.99 USD, and a collector’s edition priced at $99.99 USD. The standard edition includes 6 Killers, 7 Survivors, and 2 maps, whereas the collector’s edition will include 16 Killers, 17 Survivors, and 4 maps. Killers and Survivors featured in the board game will consist of the original cast, meaning that characters like Laurie Strode and Michael Myers will not be available in this game. The completed roster in the collector’s edition of the board game will include characters right up to the All-Kill DLC, released in March last year.

Both the standard and collector’s edition will include everything players need, such as highly detailed miniature figures of both Survivors and Killers. However, the collector’s edition will include additional mini’s, such as miniature hooks and miniature generators.

“I am probably the biggest board game nerd that I know and Dead by Daylight: The Board Game is just an amazing experience. Many of us, on the DbD team, are huge board game fans, so our expectations were high. When we were presented this project, we were all impressed and excited,” Mathieu Côté, Game Director of Dead by Daylight, shares. “Level 99 have managed to perfectly adapt the Dead by Daylight experience to a board game: the Killers VS Survivors asymmetrical gameplay, the unexpected surprises, the game loops, everything is there. And with almost all original characters present, all the different perks there’s a lot to discover and love in this. I’m definitely ordering my copy, and I recommend our fans do too!”

Fans will be able to reserve a copy of the game by backing the Kickstarter when it starts on March 29th. Players are expected to receive their copy of the game in time for Halloween 2022, which is also when the retail edition of the game will hit stores.

You can purchase a copy of the Dead by Daylight board game over on the game’s official Kickstarter.
