Jingle Jam 2021 game event raises £3.3 million for charity

The 2021 Jingle Jam, which has been described as the ‘world’s biggest games charity event’, has raised over £3 million pounds during its event in December last year.

Jingle Jam first began in 2011, where co-founders of Yogcast Lewis Brindley and Simon Lane asked their many fans to donate money to Oxfam via a Just Giving page. At the time, the Yogcast YouTube account was the biggest gaming channel, and the duo preferred that their fans give money to charity rather than send them Christmas presents.

Since then Jingle Jam has evolved considerably, with the 2021 charity event raising £3.3 million for 14 incredible charities such as Cancer Research UK, War Child and SpecialEffect, to name a few. LGBTQ+ charities, such as ILGA World were also included.

Jingle Jam 2021 was a particular special event, as it was the charity event’s 10th anniversary and offered the largest-ever collection of games (including wildly popular indies like Wildermyth, as well as popular co-op smash-hits Unrailed and Embr).

As well as games on offer, Jingle Jam 2021 was also the first year that saw community members hosting their own fundraisers as part of the event – adding over $690,000 (around £509,000) to the total. They were joined by 50 Jingle Jam streamers, which offered special events for people to tune into, such as cooking, painting, poker, karaoke and more.

“After a difficult year for many it was really nice to end it on an emotional high,” Brindley says of the success of the 2021 event. “I’d like to give a heartfelt thanks to everyone who gave their time, passion, expertise and games to make this such a huge success. We can’t wait to see how these charitable projects evolve over 2022 and benefit those who are in need.”
