Gamescom 2021: Sea of Thieves crosses over with Borderlands in new event

YAAR ME HEARTIES! Expect the crossover of the century with a new event from Sea of Thieves depicting a ship that Borderlands fans will find very familiar…

As announced via Xbox’s show during Gamescom 2021, fans of the beloved pirate adventure will be able to get a Borderlands ship during this new live event.

The Mayhem ship, aptly titled thanks to the big, brazen M splashed across the sails, comes with a Claptrap masthead that’ll make Borderlands fans very happy. It also has some very nice customization options, though to be honest we think it’d be fine leaving the ship as is thanks to that McDonalds-looking colour scheme. It may not look all that pretty, but it’s sure to make you stand out.

Of course, it isn’t as simple as just going up to your latest ship seller – do they have a ship seller in Sea of Thieves? Let us know – and saying ‘ship please’. Oh no, you’re going to have to go and earn it!

Once you boot up the game, you’ll need to go find Bilge Rats boss Larinna. She can be found by your nearest Outpost Tavern, where she’ll give you a handful of challenges to complete for the Making Mayhem event. As you complete challenges and quests throughout the event, you’ll earn more of the Mayhem ship.

The Sea of Thieves x Borderlands crossover event starts now and runs until September 7th. That’s plenty of time to cast your net wide and jump right in, so don’t hesitate to cause some mayhem!
