Apocalyptic Dream is an adult Otome game set in a zombie apocalypse

Apocalyptic Dream (full title ApoYume: Apocalyptic Dream) is not the Otome game you’re expecting for a lot of reasons. For one, there are zombies, death, and gore like no other, which makes getting closer to people and dating them a whole lot harder when you think about it. It’s just hard to confess to a girl you like her when there are brain-dead munchers trying to eat you, you know?

Otome games are typically targeted towards young women, in which players interact with (usually) male characters in a romantic scenario of some sort. While you may expect this genre of game to be very cutesy, that isn’t actually always true and it certainly doesn’t look to be the case for Apocalyptic Dream. This game instead seems to blend the genre of otome with a more traditional visual novel, mostly due to its dual, twin, protagonists.

Players take on the role of Toshiro and Mikuru Aikyo, twins that intermittently swap points of view with one another throughout the game. It’s a good thing too, because there are 10 love interests to balance between the twins, but unfortunately, it seems that only Mikuru gets the pick of both guys and girls due to her being bisexual. Sorry fellas, you might have to give this game a miss this time!

The basic premise of this game is fairly simple: Mikuru has a gift that lets her dream the future, giving her and her friends the upper hand they need to work their way around and survive the zombie apocalypse when it first starts up. As developer Midnight Springs Deco says, this doesn’t mean that your characters won’t be able to die, nor does it make your love interests immune to death either. How very spicy!

It should be noted that while there are 10 love interests overall, 4 for Toshiro and 6 for Mikuru, you’re certainly able to play through the game with one of the twins – or both – being single. Sometimes you’re just too busy trying to fight your way out of a zombie apocalypse to settle down, right?

Other features expected in ApoYume: Apocalyptic Dream include:

  • Partial English voice acting
  • Over a dozen unlockable bonus chapters, averaging between 3-5k words each
  • Custom GUI
  • Main game script of at least 300,000 words
  • Partially-animated opening credits, with わたあめ (Cotton Candy) by Kikuo as OP song (vocalist TBD)
  • OST of 6 tracks
  • 40 CGs, upwards of 60 BGs
  • 25 unique character sprites with variations, with 3 poses for all main characters: 2 casual, 1 fighting
  • Blinking animations
  • Digital copies for Steam, Switch, and Itch.io

The game is currently looking for funding over on Kickstarter. If you find yourself interested in a game about romance, horror and everything zombies, then you can support ApoYume: Apocalyptic Dream over on Kickstarter right now.
