Apex Legends and the Big Gay Love Triangle

Anyone who knows me well knows that battle royales are simply not my thing. I find them tedious, a little boring, and I’m a person who likes to read lore and find out more about the characters and the world. Not many battle royale games are interested in providing that. However, that isn’t the case for Apex Legends, which gives lore through its comics, voice lines, and, currently, its big, gay love triangle.

For those of you who haven’t been keeping up, Apex Legends season 9 was possibly the queerest it’s ever been. Fans had it all: confirmation of Valkyrie being a lesbian, a ‘will-they-won’t-they’ situation between Loba and Valkyrie, flirty dialogue between Loba and Valkyrie, and poor Loba walking in on Bangalore explaining to others that she just sees Loba as a friend. It was a LOT of gay drama, and ever since the end of the Apex Legends Legacy comic, Loba, Valkyrie, and Bangalore seem to be in quite the love triangle.

That has since spiralled into flirty lines between Valkyrie and Loba, and some clear tension with Loba and Bangalore. There’s also Revenant, who seems to be planning to cause some serious destruction to the woman who believes has Loba’s heart. It isn’t quite sure who that person is going to be, especially as Revenant made it clear that whoever he targets… it’s all a game to him.

Fast forward to season 10 and we’ve got a brand new Legend that’s joined the roster, stylish and sexy Seer who brings his own lore to the games. Yet what we’re really glued to is the new voicelines between Bangalore, Valkyrie and Loba. The love triangle has taken a turn to the uncomfortable. As shown by Twitter user @AlexisCyra, new interactions between Loba and Bangalore seem pretty tense.

The thing is, Bangalore doesn’t actively know what the problem is outside of being saved by Loba and the other legends. She doesn’t even know that Valkyrie has a thing for Loba, nor that Loba heard her tell Rampart and Gibraltar that she sees the thief as just a friend. So all she knows is that everyone is incredibly passive-aggressive for no reason, something which is equally as hilarious as it is awkward.

As for Loba and Valkyrie, the hotshot pilot who made her interest in our favourite she-wolf has made it clear that she’s no longer fooling around. In her interactions with Loba, she expresses through her very own passive-aggressive dialogue that ‘the ball’ is very much in ‘Loba’s court.’ Oof.

Loba and Valkyrie did have a flirty thing going on, but now it looks as though that’s old news and Valkyrie wants to know if she’ll have a chance with a woman with dangerous enemies and friends alike. Maybe it’d be best for Valkyrie to keep her distance or, better yet, realize that being a rebound is probably not a good way to start a relationship with anyone. Just our two cents!

We’re very excited to see how this love triangle will play out and kudos to the Apex Legends team for once again proving that no matter what genre your game is, things are so much more exciting when you make it queer as fuck.
