New OLED Nintendo Switch revealed… finally!

Nintendo has, at last, revealed its upgraded Switch model, a 7-inch OLED model with 64gb storage and a wide stand, due to launch on October 8th. A new dock also accompanies the OLED model with a wired LAN port included.

While this has possibly been one of the industry’s worst kept secrets, it’s good to finally get confirmation of something we, and many others, had predicted coming out pre-E3.

“The new Nintendo Switch (OLED model) is a great option for players who want to experience the new vibrant screen when playing in handheld and tabletop mode,” said Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser. “With the addition of this new model to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, people have an additional choice of a system that best fits the gaming experience they desire – whether it’s Nintendo Switch (OLED model), Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite.”

Nintendo Switch OLED has a similar overall size to the original Switch, but with a larger, vibrant 7-inch OLED screen with vivid colours and crisp contrast. Alongside the LAN port on the dock and the wide flip stand offering better on-table stability, this looks like a true upgrade for the already beloved system.

One thing lacking from this announcement is any mention of 4K upscaling when docked, a feature that many had been expecting as part of the reveal.

The Nintendo Switch OLED model will launch on October 8th, with a suggested retail price of $349.99. For more information, head to Nintendo’s website.
