Itch.io Creator Day gives 100% revenue share to creators

If you’ve been wondering whether you should buy a new game over on itch.io today, then don’t hesitate any longer – the answer is a resounding yes, especially if you want to support indie creators on Creator Day.

Announced yesterday via Tweet, Itch.io have shared a new special event called Creator Day. On this day, itch.io will not be receiving any sort of cut of sales on the site and “developers, musicians, and artists will receive 100% of sales after taxes and payment processor fees.” This means that if you purchase a game on itch.io, your money is going directly to the developer, musician and artist.

It isn’t the first time that itch.io have done this, as the indie service did something similar during Black Friday events. However, it’s the first time that itch.io have given it a name and as such, made it an official event for developers, artists, and musicians.

“We hope to make this a regular event to give developers an excuse to share and promote their works.” Itch.io wrote on their blog. To developers they said, “it’s not necessary to change anything in your account settings to participate, and your revenue share settings will be restored after the day is over. We encourage you to share your projects to take advantage of the day, or consider hosting a sale to get more people checking out your work.”

Itch.io have not only been the source of great indie games, but the store and safe place for adult, queer gamers and developers to show off their creations without Steam’s restrictive regulations. On itch.io, queer developers are truly appreciated and while we’re a little biased, we encourage that on this Friday you go out and support all the queer indie developers, artists, and musicians you see on itch.io.

Below are just a few games that stand out to us, so go ahead and show your love for the queer developers that have created fantastic, queer indie darlings on itch.io.
