The Last of Us 3 is real – but only as a plot outline
The Last of Us 3 has certainly been something that’s been on the mind of fans who’re eager to 1) find out if Ellie and Dina ever got back together and 2) did Lev and Abby ever find the Fireflies?
The answer to those questions still remains a mystery, as The Last of Us 3 is currently nowhere near to being in production. That said, thanks to IGN’s keen ear during an interview with The Last of Us‘ creative director Neil Druckmann, alongside co-writer Halley Gross, on the Script Apart podcast…We know that The Last of Us 3 does at least have a plot outline.
What that plot outline is, however, looks to be something that’ll remain a secret for a while. Druckmann stated “I don’t know how much I want to reveal… [Halley Gross] and I did write an outline for a story, that we’re not making, but I hope one day can see the light of day – that explores a little bit what happens after this game.”
Druckmann also mentioned that when making The Last of Us games, there were obvious themes that spoke to everyone, but also said something “personal” about the characters you played as. With that in mind, Druckmann acknowledges that because the series now has two games, there is a certain thematic pattern that comes with that and something Naughty Dog would have to stick to if they created a third game. That and they’d have to spend some time creating The Last of Us 3.
The Last of Us Part 2 only launched last year, but it’s already done ridiculously well for itself. It’s not only earned more awards than most other games last year, but it sold 4 million copies in just three days of it being released. Those are some serious numbers.
The Last of Us 3 may not be in production as of now, but that doesn’t mean we might not see it in the future.
For now though? Players and fans should keep their eyes set on the horizon for the multiplayer component of The Last of Us Part 2.
