The Sims 4 adds over 100 new skin tones and sliders
We like to joke that you can do most everything in The Sims 4, but that’s far from being the truth. Sure you can become a vampire, go to university, adopt a lot of dogs and cats, but what good is The Sims 4 if its skin tones make its BAME groups feel left out?
That changed yesterday, where a free update for The Sims 4 game released – which included not only over 100 new skin tones, but a variety of sliders for make-up and hair, too – was released. A more in-depth look on skin tones and make-up to be more friendly to BAME groups have been asked for by fans for years, so this was a great first step from Maxis.
This update was far from a surprise, however. As PC Gamer points out, The Sims 4’s executive producer Lindsay Pearson acknowledged The Sims 4’s shortcomings on not being a completely inclusive game. In a video – that you can watch here – she said “We hear you, and we recognize we have not done enough to address the variety of skin tones and hairstyles you expect to find in The Sims 4.”
It seems then that the team at Maxis have kept their promise. But they didn’t do this all by themselves. In a tweet, the official The Sims twitter thanked a range of influencers that helped them with their constructive criticism and feedback. Without them, the update for these new skin tones, hair, and make-up couldn’t have been so brilliant.
The new update is already here, so if you haven’t already, head on over to The Sims 4 and get playing!
