CD Projekt Red apologizes over Cyberpunk 2077’s poor performance on last-gen consoles

No matter what happened, Cyberpunk 2077 was going to make some serious money. It was hyped to the extent that Twitter Gaming celebrated its release, that it had celebrities star in the game as characters, that gamers – who hadn’t even played the game – were used as weapons against minorities to whoever spoke out about their issues with the game. It’s because of these brazen beginnings that CD Projekt Red apologizing over the performance of Cyberpunk 2077 on last-gen consoles feels hollow.

The apology was issued on the game’s official social media pages. CD Projekt Red started the statement by apologizing for never showing Cyberpunk 2077 on “last-gen consoles before it premiered and, in consequence, not allowing [players] to make a more informed decision” about their purchase. It should be noted that the codes that went out for the game were all PC, so it was impossible for game journalists to give a review on last-gen consoles. Whether that was a calculated decision by CD Projekt Red or not is, ultimately, up to you.

The statement also mentioned patches and hotfixes that the game would be receiving – improving the overall experience of the game. A hotfix was released last Friday that fixed a number of game-breaking bugs across all platforms, but there’s still a lot to be improved. So much so that players are looking for ways to refund their copies of Cyberpunk 2077 on last-gen consoles.

It isn’t just a hot-air statement either because, as you can see above, CD Projekt Red has also said they are more than willing to help gamers get refunds if they’d rather not wait for updates. Though if you’re in need of their help, you only have until December 21st, 2020 as after that the team will be on a well-deserved break.

The most troubling thing about this, in our opinion, is that it was plain to see Cyberpunk 2077 on last-gen consoles wasn’t given enough time. The constant pushbacks of the release, the lack of gameplay revealed, etc. If the game had had more time, then perhaps last-gen versions of the game wouldn’t be in such a bad state.

Will you be waiting for the Cyberpunk 2077 updates, or are you going the refund route?
