Baldur’s Gate 3 new patch massively improves the game
It boggles our minds to know that Baldur’s Gate 3 released only a short time ago. It felt forever ago that we last played and reviewed it, but it’s only been a couple of months and already Baldur’s Gate 3 is receiving a brand new patch. A patch that massively improves the game, and we’re not just talking about its performance.
According to the patch notes received in the Larian Gazette, the team have addressed a number of issues that were driving the community up the wall. For example, surfaces are now gone – meaning that even if you cast Fire Bolt on the floor multiple of times, it will no longer set on fire and rob you the chance of avoiding it.
But getting rid of surfaces is just one issue that Larian has fixed in this new patch. Here is just a quick, bullet point list that explains some of the new things that have been added or tweaked.
- Companions nitpick less: There were complaints that some companions just didn’t seem to be all that, well, companionable. In this update that has been lessened somewhat. But don’t worry, that doesn’t mean their personalities have been changed whatsoever – just that they aren’t going to nitpick about every little thing you do.
- You’ll get EXP even if you avoid fighting: One of the more annoying things about being a pacifist in this game is that you never receive any prizes out of it – unlike combat. That’s changed in this patch, with the game rewarding you EXP (and more) for avoiding combat.
- Companions jump with you: Instead of having to individually force each character over places with the Jump action, companions will now jump/follow you automatically.
- More short rests: Instead of one measly short rest to keep you and your party in the game, you’ll now have two. This means you won’t have to keep on going to the camp again and again!
- Huge UI improvements and inspiration points: As D&D fans will tell you when you level up, so do your spells and their damage. Before you had a jumbled mess of a UI that spread out the different levels of spells, now the different levels of spells are connected with one another. You’ll also be told when you have inspiration points now, so no more second-guessing!
These are just a few of the changes that Larian Studios have made to the game, but they are far from being finished. A new patch will come sometime after the holidays, giving players enough time to try out what this new patch has on offer! But remember, this patch also breaks your old saves – so think about that before downloading!
