The PS5 really doesn’t want you to see spoilers
Is there anything worse than spoilers? Apparently not, if the first look at the PS5’s user interface was anything to go off. According to that first little look, the PS5 really doesn’t want you to see spoilers at all.
This first look comes from YouTube, where Sony went into detail about all of the new and returning features that would come with the PS5. I won’t lie, it was mostly old features that the PS4 already has, so non-watchers really didn’t miss much… But that wasn’t all there was.
New features included the Control Center, where you can go in and out of multiple games without shutting one or the other off, look up hints and tips for games in real-time, and so much more. There was also Activities, which shows new updates from publishers, and can even help people if they are looking to collect trophies by giving out tips and hints.
But what really caught our eye was how, during the end of this video, it was conveyed that the PS5 has a system that ultimately works like a big spoilers warning. For example, say you’ve just taken a picture of (spoilers ahead) Aerith dying in FF7 and sent it to a friend over messenger. The system will flag the content as a spoiler, and will warn your friend in the process.
But how does the system know what’s a spoiler for you, and what’s not? According to what Sony’s Sid Shuman said in the UI video, “if [your] friend hasn’t yet played the activity where [you] captured this media, and the game’s developer thinks it might contain spoilers, they’ll receive a warning before they view it.”
Unfortunately, Sony did not share what this message would look in the video. Hopefully they’ll include more details before the PS5 officially releases on November 12th for the US, Japan, Canada, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia and Mexica, and November 19th for everyone else.
