Thirsty Sword Lesbians is what happens when you combine queer love, swords, and tabletop together – a mix that reminds us very much of Revolutionary Girl Utena, but with a lot more dice rolling!
Created by April Kit Walsh, Thirsty Sword Lesbians is a tabletop roleplaying game where queer people can feel powerful, celebrate their love, and embrace their true feelings. And what’s exciting about this is that it’s currently on Kickstarter and – having already beaten its goal – there are a lot of cool new things being added to this game already. Thirsty Sword Lesbians uses Powered by the Apocalyptic engine, which guarantees fun and excitement no matter if you roll low. It’ll just push the story forward to more interesting places.
You get to play as one of nine character types: Beast, Chosen, Devoted, Infamous, Nature Witch, Scoundrel, Seeker, Spooky Witch, and Trickster. Each of these types will give you the opportunity to explore emotional conflicts that’ll drive your story – all the while enjoying an explicitly queer story from the numerous adventures within this tabletop game.
If you’re wondering ‘oh, can only cis lesbians play this?’ then fear not. The game’s Kickstarter clearly states who can or cannot play this game. For example, if you’re a fascist, TERF, or other bigot, then you can go ahead and do one. If you simply just want to play a bisexual character or a trans lesbian, then go right ahead! All that matters is you have fun!
