Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Lets You Play as Origin Characters

Baldur’s Gate 3 has managed to win my heart despite the game only being in Early Access. This was for a number of reasons, but the one that sticks out the most is your companions and how fun they are to interact with. That said, you sadly couldn’t play as them, forcing you to create your own character. However, thanks to a Baldur’s Gate 3 mod, that can easily be rectified.

The mod is called Early Access Origin Character Unlocker and is created by Nexus user AlanaSP. It unlocks the use of the Origin pre-made characters – aka, your companions like Lae’zel, Shadowheart, Astarion, Wyll and Gale, and lets you play as them throughout the first part of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Now let us be clear: you should only consider this mod if you’ve completed Early Access. Otherwise you’re going to spoil a lot about what makes the game – and your companions – so great in the first place. Seriously, this Baldur’s Gate 3 mod is amazing, but do think before you use it. Especially since Larian Studio’s vision was for you to play through Early Access as your own character, first.

It’s also not clear if some ‘sequences’ of the Early Access is functional for Origin characters. For example, your custom character has certain dreams that link to who they are, and of my time of writing this, I’m unsure if the Origins characters has the same, finished content. Still, this mod is sure to be helpful if you want to find out just how the Origin characters will be handled.

You can download the mod over at Nexus Mods. In the meantime though, why not check out of Baldur’s Gate 3 review and guides? We’re sure you’ll find something that you’ll like!
