I Plan to Live my Best Gay Jedi Life in the ‘Star Wars’ Sims 4 Expansion
What do you get when you cross The Sims 4 and Star Wars together? Something that you already know will be a thousand times better than The Rise of Skywalker film.
Despite being a huge fan of Star Wars, I’ve always been critical in how it deals with its marginalized characters, particularly when it comes to the films. So when EA announced at Gamescom 2020 that The Sims 4 would be getting a Star Wars expansion pack, I couldn’t help but grin with delight. Why? Because no matter how small the victory was, I’d be able to create a a space opera where everyone can be queer. Something which Star Wars is still so skittish about.
Ultimately this will lead to absolutely nothing, but The Sims 4: Journey to Batuu has lit a fire in my heart that wants little more but to experience a Star Wars where I’m able to live my best gay Jedi life. If that’s wrong, then I don’t want to be right!
In Journey to Batuu, players will be able to experience both the light and dark side of the force by either helping out Rey of the Rebellion, or Kylo Ren of the Empire. You’ll have to do tasks for them that can unlock new cosmetics, and in the end, will grant you with your very own lightsaber to take back home to Earth.
The vice president of Lucasfilm Games, Douglas Reilly explained what they hope to achieve in crossing over the two franchises.
“We loved the idea of giving players the opportunity to tell their own Star Wars story, and The Sims’ open-ended form of storytelling and self-expression is the perfect platform to do so,” Reilly (via NME) explained.
We’re super excited for this expansion pack and if you feel the same, then don’t fret! You won’t have to wait long as The Sims 4: Journey to Batuu comes to consoles and PC on September 8th, 2020.
