Animal Crossing fans have spoken – Tom Nook and Redd are exes

Every single time I feel like the Animal Crossing community have got nothing left that’ll surprise me, they come up with something else. We’ve got Wilbur as a hunk, Blathers as a sexy twink, and now Tom Nook and Redd are apparently bitter exes that may or may not want to get back together? I love Animal Crossing fans.

I confess, I don’t know where or when this pairing started to become popular, but I first stumbled across the concept of Tom Nook and Redd on a magical place called Twitter. I’ve been unable to stop looking at Nook and Redd’s torrid love affair ever since, and it’s possibly going to ruin my productivity forever.

The general gist of it is that Nook and Redd were business partners and lovers in the past. But Redd’s unsavoury actions and ways caused a rift to occur between the two of them, leading to a messy, bitter divorce that has rocked the world ever since. It’s sad, truly. Especially as a human heart costs 400,000 bells, and Redd gave Tom Nook his for free!

It sounds absolutely wild and highly unlikely, especially considering Nintendo walked back on CJ and Flick being lovers, but you know what? We’re here for it! We’re enjoying how active and creative the Animal Crossing community is, and let’s be honest, these two business icons being exes just makes every interaction with them that much sweeter.

Bitter exes are a strange, but fun dynamic that we can’t help but enjoy. So Tom Nook and Redd fans, keep at it!

  • I’m over everyone shipping video game characters in general, but it’s clear this pandemic has really left people with nothing better to do than fantasize about a beaver and a lizard bumping uglies or complain about a raccoon being a “capitalist slave-driver.” It’s a kids game where you deliver furniture to chibi animals and you can sell a beetle for more than a lawn mower costs. There’s really not much to read into it try to make sense of here.

  • I keep seeing criticisms about how we’re making everyone gay for the sake of entertainment or whatever… who cares? It’s fun. You’re only shitting on it because it’s gay. Either that or you have a weird hang up about people having fun.

  • “the fans” being a whole 5 or 6 individuals?

Who even asks for this fantasy to be reality? I wouldn’t be “shitting on it because it’s gay.” I would be criticizing it because of the amount of thought and expression going into the fictitious scenario. Gay or straight, this is just weird. Seeking entertainment/pleasure out of shipping/fetishizing anthropomorphized animals is hugging that line of “bestiality”. I don’t go around thinking about Apollo and Amelia being in an intimate relationship with one another.
