6 Video Game Podcasts to Get You Through The Lockdown

Here at Gayming Magazine, we’re lucky to be able to say that we’re busy and thriving even during lockdown. However, not everyone is as fortunate. But fear not, what we’ve found to amuse us — outside of video games that is — is podcasts, particularly video game podcasts.

Podcasts are so diverse nowadays. You’ve got your tabletop, your true crime, and even food podcasts. Whatever you’re hankering for, we’re almost certain that there is going to be a podcast about it.

For us, video game podcasts are incredibly good — particularly when these podcasts focus not just on the video games themselves, but the people who make them, and those where critical analysis is key to the entertainment the podcast provides. That just really butters our bread, you know?

With that in mind, we’d like to share 10 video game podcasts that will help keep your mind occupied throughout this. Stay safe, and remember that we’ve got your back.

Game Query

Described as ‘the game industry’s dirtiest podcast,’ we’ve only recently got into Game Query but was won over fully by the most recent, DOOM vs Animal Crossing episode. It’s a hilarious podcast, where the hosts bring a ‘query’ to one another and they answer that query. It’s then put to a vote on who has the best answer. It’s very, very good and we recommend that you give it a listen to ASAP.

Listen to Game Query here. You can also listen to them on Spotify.

Waypoint Radio

If we’re asked for a podcast that’s capable of breaking down some of the biggest stories in video games in a way that’s comprehensive, as well as entertaining, then we’d point to Waypoint Radio. It’s hosted by Austin Walker, Rob Zacny, Ricardo Contreras, and Patrick Klepek, and will have you hooked in under 5 minutes. Trust us on that one.

Normandy FM

Now if there’s one thing you’ve probably gathered while reading Gayming Magazine, it’s that we’re huge BioWare fans. Aimee is currently playing Dragon Age 2, and is having a whale of a time if her Isabela tweets are anything to go by.

But what if you just don’t have the time to play those games, but want to relive them all anyway? Then there’s no better podcast than Normandy FM, which covers both Mass Effect and Dragon Age. It’s actively looking for guests right now, so if you’re interested, give it a listen and get in touch with the podcast on Twitter.

Palin’ Around

Palin’ Around can be described in many ways but for us, listening to Palin’ Around is like sitting down and having a beer with friends – warm and affectionate. Two things that we feel is very much a necessity to the majority of the world right now.

It is Uppercut’s official podcast, often doing deep dives into video games, fandom and pop culture like comics, movies, and TV. If you’re a big fan of all those things, you should check them out. Oh, and be sure to give Uppercut’s great content a read while you’re at it too!

Fodlan FM

Alright, we admit full bias on this one. Deputy Editor Aimee Hart runs her own podcast, and it’s about Robin’s favourite game, Fire Emblem Three Houses. She’s joined by Jaya Bagla as the two analyze all characters involved within the game, and their narrative importance. As you may have expected, it gets more than a little gay.

If you’re a fan of Fire Emblem, you can listen to Fodlan FM on Spotify and Podbean.

The Gayming Podcast

Yes, we know what you’re thinking. If the previous entry wasn’t biased, then this sure as hell is. Well, you’ve caught us, but we promise that The Gayming Podcast is a great show that has queer contributors on every week, all eager to talk about everything in gaming.

With this pandemic on-going, we’ve even decided to branch out to include US and UK contributors together! That means you’ll get the option to hear from some of our freelancers Ed Nightingale, Elizabeth Henges, Caitlin Galiz-Rowe and more!
