Space Invaders: queer representations in video games at the Museum of London

Gayming Magazine is excited to be supporting the Museum of London for an LGBTQ video game history talk on Thursday 26th March. Join us as Sacha Coward and Vaneet Mehta explore issues of LGBTQ+ representation in video games throughout history.

LGBTQ+ content exists in video games in many different forms – not only characters, but also stories, narratives and messages.

Queer characters in video games were almost non-existent until very recently, with the first queer characters starting to appear towards the mid 90’s. Since then, queer representation in the world of video games has grown, leading to things such as the foundation of this very magazine, the LGBTQ Video Game Archive, and the Queerness and Games conference, now going into its 6th year.

In this conversation the speakers will explore the history of queer representation in video games, starting at the very beginning and working up to where we find ourselves today.

Sacha Coward is an escape room designer, a video game fanatic and a queer historian.

Vaneet Mehta is a analyst programmer at Gentrack UK, very interested in technology and an avid video gamer.

The conversation will be chaired by highly respected games PR executive, and friend of Gayming Magazine, Izzy Jagan.
