Kakarot sells over 1.5 million copies in its first week

Fans of video games and anime were sure to be delighted by the arrival of Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. It’s got everything that’s always a huge hit: flashy violence, a familiar cast of characters, and a storyline that remains faithful to the anime itself. What’s not to love about that?

The reception of the game by critics was rather mixed, with fans being much more accepting of the game’s flaws, but overall the game hasn’t done too badly at all. According to Bandai Namco, the game managed to sell over 1.5 million copies in its first week after launch.

That’s pretty extraordinary, though not entirely surprising considering how well-loved both the Dragon Ball FighterZ and the Xenoverse video game series are. The Dragon Ball universe is constantly expanding with spin-offs, one-shots, and movies. In our opinion, it would only be a shock if Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot did badly.

Regardless, we’re pleased that an anime game has done so well and fan-reception has been so positive. It’s also become a game full of meme-worthy mods, which we’re certain has had an impact on how many people are playing the game. After all, there is a Crash Bandicoot mod and that alone is enough to tempt even us to grab the game for ourselves.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available to purchase on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and unfortunately, not on the Nintendo Switch. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge.
