The Rise of Skywalker LGBT representation lasts for two whole seconds

Let’s be honest with one another. When we heard JJ Abrams hint that there would indeed be LGBT representation in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, we were sceptical at best. The Rise of Skywalker LGBT representation we were looking for, after all, actually had to include a showing of a relationship between two characters we knew and cared about.

As we know from how Disney and Marvel handled gay relationships, most of us have the common sense not to expect anything apart from a two-second scene where someone mentions they have a husband or a wife. So, we weren’t expecting much.

However, it seems that this time around Disney have started to actually progress a little. Yes, instead of someone mentioning they have a spouse of the same gender, this time you’ll actually get to see a kiss between these supposedly gay characters. Wow, we do love a good nod towards LGBT representation, don’t we?

Star Wars LGBT representation

This news comes from Adam B. Vary, a Variety journalist who previously confirmed that Finn and Poe wouldn’t be happening in this upcoming movie. In a tweet about the movie, which he has seen, he confirmed that there was LGBT representation in The Rise of Skywalker alright.

“[Also] I can confirm there is queer representation in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It lasts maybe two seconds, and you may miss it entirely. Welp.”

Consider us shocked. As for what the representation actually is, we’ve seen multiple users who have seen the movie state that it was between two female pilots. These may be rumors however, as we’ve also seen tweets state that it was two male Resistance fighters.

Until we can watch the movie for ourselves, we aren’t unable to confirm what The Rise of Skywalker LGBT representation actually is. That said, keep your eyes peeled to Gayming Magazine, and we’ll do our utmost best to report said ‘representation’ straight away.

  • There are only two on screen kisses in this movie, and zero romantic relationships explored. Does every movie have to be everything to everybody? Star Wars has come a long way to being as inclusive and diverse as it is today, but it has NEVER been a touchy feely romance saga.
