The Gayming Podcast Episode 4: The end of the year special
Episode 4 of The Gayming Podcast has just dropped and it’s our end of the year (and decade) special!
In the studio, I was joined by freelance writer Matt Kamen and Twitch Partner Miabyte to celebrate the end of 2019.
What’s In Your Slot? In this opening section we talked about what got us through Christmas. I talked about how cool Luigi’s Mansion 3 is and how gay the ghosts are (Matt wrote an amazing article last month about the ghosts of Luigi’s Mansion 3), plus I got to do my passable Baga Chipz “MUCH BETTA” impression. Then Miabyte talked about seeing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker which ignited an awfully long and cathartic rant with many spoilers (so beware!).
Gayming News: Further into the episode, we review our Game of the Year nominations and announced the winner of the Gayming Magazine Game of the Year 2019, as voted for by you our amazing readers. Listen to the episode to find out who won, or check out our reveal article here. We also discussed the awesome news that Gayming Magazine was named one of the ‘38 reasons why 2019 was not all bad‘ by GamesIndustry.biz! To be included on this list was incredibly humbling and I am honoured.
Hot Topic: As we close out the decade, we decided to review our Queer Games of the Decade list, bringing in discussion from Miabyte and Matt about their views on these games and their importance. Plus they also proposed their additions to the list. It was also an opportunity to note how far LGBTQ video gaming had come in terms of inclusion and representation. According to the LGBTQ Video Game Archive, in 2010 there 34 games with LGBTQ inclusion, by the end of the decade there are over 200 games per year being made with some form of LGBTQ inclusion. This is amazing and very wholesome.
