Games to watch out for: TaleSpire
Tabletop games are evolving every single day, and not just with its content. How we play tabletop games is also changing, before you had to rely on meeting up with a selected group every few weeks (if you’re lucky), whereas now there are apps and websites such as Roll20 that help groups play together, no matter where in the world they are located. Well, now TaleSpire has stepped into the scene.
For those who don’t know, TaleSpire is a brand new way to play your favourite pen and paper role-play games. Created by BouncyRock, TaleSpire allows players to create the world they want from the ground-up, meaning that even if you don’t want to be spoiled, you can join in on your GM and help make dungeons together, as well as play through them to test it.
But it isn’t just about making dungeons – it’s about making a world where you and your players can explore together. Whether that’s your typical fantasy dungeon, or a sci-fi opera, TaleSpire lets you create the stories you want your players to experience by giving them the tools you wouldn’t see in other tabletop-based games.
While currently still in development, TaleSpire was funded thanks to the participation of fans from Kickstarter and is currently sending out updates every few weeks or so. One of the most recent updates was contacting those who chose the ‘help design ___’ tier, which has got us very excited to see what’s coming next from the folks over at Bouncyrock.
And while certainly not a replacement for other tabletop apps and websites such as Roll20, TaleSpire is definitely a game where immersion really is king. It also doesn’t hurt that you’re able to design your playable character in almost every way you can think of, including skin colour, clothes, and hair. No longer will you need to search hours and hours on Pinterest, now you can design the character you want by yourself.
The game doesn’t an official release date at the moment, but has a very active community on Discord, as well as Twitter. As for the beta, that is releasing in early 2020.
So fingers crossed, you may just be able to play the tabletop game of your dreams ASAP!
