BioWare teases countries we’ll see in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf
To celebrate Dragon Age Day 2023, BioWare tweeted out a short video revealing at least some of the countries players will be able to travel to in their adventures during Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. The game hit its alpha milestone back in October of 2022.
“This is Thedas,” Bioware tweeted. “A vibrant land of rugged wilderness, treacherous labyrinths, and glittering cities – steeped in savage combat and secret magics. Now, its fate teeters on a knife’s edge.”
The video, called “Thedas Calls,” shows off multiple countries we’ve either seen briefly or heard about in other Dragon Age games and properties (books, comics, etc.), including Rivain (home of Dragon Age 2’s pirate queen, Isabela), Antiva (home of Dragon Age: Origins’ Antivan Crow assassin, Zevran), and the Grey Warden home base the Anderfells.
Each of these are areas fans have long wanted to explore further, so it seems like Bioware has heard this feedback, or perhaps the series’ storyline was always planning to give us a deeper look at these countries. There isn’t a lot of detail in this trailer, as it’s just a teaser, but we can infer a few things now. We hear multiple voices narrating this trailer, representing each region and their cultural values. At the end, a deep voice says “all the world will soon share the peace and comfort of my reign.”
That last line is obviously hinting at the game’s antagonist, though if that will actually turn out to be the titular Dreadwolf or not remains to be seen. The narration also directly references the Antivan Crows, assassins who run the country’s politics from behind the scenes, so it seems more than likely that we’ll have to work with or against them during our adventure. The Grey Wardens are also mentioned by name, and seem to be in some sort of power struggle to decide who actually commands their units. The narration we hear indicates that they’ve been ordered to not send soldiers out to a conflict, and the speaker vehemently disagrees with that decision. We don’t get a lot of concrete information from the Rivaini narration, as it mostly describes the god their country’s primary religion worships.
The end of the trailer announced that the game’s full world is scheduled to be revealed sometime during the summer of 2024, so fans will have to wait a little longer to get more details on the Thedas of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
