New Tales from the Borderlands features a transgender man
New Tales from the Borderlands just launched on Friday, surprising many by dropping the entire game in one shot, rather than relying on the episodic method the old version of Telltale used to use (this game was actually developed by Gearbox Software and 2K in-house). But an even bigger surprise is that the game includes a character named Lor, who has transitioned between his appearance in Borderlands 3 and this game.
Those who played Borderlands 3 may remember Lor from the “Rise and Grind” quest, where they were tasked with bringing him coffee to get the coffee shop he works at in the Meridian Metroplex up and running again during the Maliwan siege. Lor goes on to help fight back the invasion with Atlas later in the game. Players originally met Lor before he started his physical transition, but was still an out and proud trans man.
His voice actor, Ciarán Strange, is returning to voice the character and once again confirmed Lor’s trans identity in a post on Twitter where he announced his casting.
“Allow me to introduce…LOR…he’s finally himself. And we’re so bloody proud of him,” Strange wrote in the thread. “It may be your first time hearing his true name — but Lor has always been Lor! — ever since his life as a barista was upended by a Maliwan invasion in #BL3 and he fought back with Atlas.”
“The Gearbox team can’t wait to reintroduce you to a character you’ve showered with so much love over the years, through his journey. Lor is able to be who he is because of YOUR support!”
New Tales from the Borderlands is available now on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
