Heartstopper starts filming Season 2, adds new cast members

On Thursday, Netflix announced that Heartstopper has started filming its second season, and four new actors have joined the cast. The Netflix show, based on a queer graphic novel of the same name, was renewed for two additional seasons back in May.

All of the original cast from the show will be returning to Heartstopper. The new cast members are as follows:

  • Leila Khan as Sahar Zahid – a Higgs school student
  • Jack Barton as David Nelson – Nick’s older brother
  • Bradley Riches as James McEwan – a Truham school student
  • Nima Taleghani as Mr. Farouk – a Truham school teacher

Sahar Zahid is Leila Khan’s first professional acting role. She got the job after making it through a nation-wide open casting call. Bradley Riches, meanwhile, played an unnamed student at Truham in the first season of Heartstopper. He’s now returning to the show as named character James McEwan.

To celebrate and announce their return to filming, the Heartstopper cast filmed a behind the scenes video of themselves returning to production and saying “hi” to fans which was posted on the Netflix YouTube channel. We can see the actors reading scripts, hugging each other, taking selfies, and otherwise preparing to shoot the show together.

The first season of Heartstopper followed the events of the first two volumes of the graphic novels, introducing us to our high school protagonists Nick and Charlie, along with their other friends, like lesbians Tara and Darcy, and Elle (played by Yasmin Finley), and Tao.

Presumably, the next season will pick up where the previous one left off, while also broadening the world with introductions of other characters – like Nick’s older brother David. Whatever ends up happening to these characters, fans are guaranteed at least two more seasons of their adventures.
