So Vam – a queer vampire horror flick – comes to Shudder this month

With gay Christmas coming up, aka the glorious holiday event called Halloween, there’s never been a better time to embrace all of the camp horror in your life. And if you’re looking for a new brand of queer and campy to add to your collection, then you’re going to love So Vam.

Directed by Alice Maio Mackay, this Australian vampire horror-comedy flick wants to raise the stakes while telling a queer story that you’ll remember.

So Vam follows a queer and bullied high school student named Kurt (played by Australian drag artist, Xai), in a coming-of-age tale that isn’t afraid to have a little bite. Kurt is just trying to survive the pressure of high school – which means doing everything he can to avoid homophobic bullies – when he comes in contact with something he’d never thought he’d meet: a vampire. This bloodsucker drains him, and almost kills him, but Kurt is saved by a group of young, queer vampire ladies. Protected by these beautiful vampire ladies, Kurt is thrust into a world that makes high school look like kindergarten.

As he grapples with this new life, Kurt must learn to control his insatiable hunger and learn to use his vampire powers for the greater good.

So Vam debuted last fall at the renowned Salem Horror Festival, and has already earned itself a positive reputation. Vampires are still in, no matter the month.

So Vam arrives to streaming this Thursday, August 25 – exclusively on Shudder. Watch the official trailer below to discover just what awaits you.
