League of Legends Project A game is an FPS shooter
League of Legends had quite the field day with its 10th-anniversary livestream. Not only did they announce a Hearthstone competitor, a fighting game and an anime series, but they also introduced Project A. What is Project A, you ask? Well, League of Legends Project A looks to be an FPS shooter. Only without the League of Legends characters.
And like many competitive FPS shooters before it, Project A will be online – pitting players against one another. From our first look at it during the livestream, it seemed obvious that the inspiration was, of course, Overwatch and TF2.
Riot describes Project A as a ‘character-based tactical shooter’. Whether that means we’ll be given a trickle of backstory for characters at release just like Overwatch remains to be seen. Or they could just mean that their characters are designed to look ‘well nice’. That works too.
Even though it is in early development, the environments and gunplay certainly look compelling and as easy as it is to make Overwatch references, we’re confident that Project A has its own unique personality, waiting for us to explore.
For example, it looks as though one of the game’s features is that it will allow players to resurrect one another. We’re unsure if that ability is restricted to just one character or not, but if every character is able to do so, then that’s already a gamechanger.
Riot has promised to deliver an exciting new experience with this project, with executive producer Anna Donlon stating “we’re staying true to the high consequence gameplay of tac shooters, but we want to evolve the space. We want a tac shooter with more creativity, more expression, and a lot more style.”
