Steam Deck reservations moved to Q2 and Q3 2022

Steam Deck – a handheld PC from Valve – was revealed last week. Last Thursday, pre-orders for the new piece of tech was opened up so that anyone interested could put a reservation. As anyone who was doing their utmost to purchase the newest handheld gaming PC could tell you, it wasn’t a simple process and as such, some Steam Deck reservations has moved back to a release of Q2 and Q3 in 2022.

This news comes from GamesIndustry.Biz, which explains that some users were told not to expect their Steam Deck until later in the year 2022. Considering the official website of the Steam Deck said that these handheld devices would be shipping sometime in December, the push back to Q2 2022 for the 256GB model of Steam Deck and Q3 for the 512GB model is, well, quite eye-opening on just how many people put money down to get a piece of Valve’s newest piece of gaming tech.

The pushback doesn’t come as too much of a surprise though, especially for anyone reading this who spent all of Thursday religiously spamming the refresh button to try and get their reservation for the Steam Deck to go through in the first place. There was a variety of different bugs, saying that your account was too new to reserve despite having owned it for a long time, or that because of your many attempts you’d have to try and make a reservation in a few hours. A very fun time for everyone involved.

The worst thing about the opening of pre-orders on Thursday however is that, as GamesIndustry.Biz tells it, some users have been told that their reservation “may not even be successful after completing the process.” If you’re not sure if that’s you, we suggest checking your emails to see if you’ve received anything of the sort from Steam.

Regardless, despite Steam and Valve restricting new accounts from actually reserving a copy in order to prevent scalpers from getting their hands on the handheld PC, listings for reservations of the device are already present on eBay. Our favourite listing has to be from the seller who’s asking for £1,000.00 from you for a reservation ticket. Not even the Steam Deck itself, just a ticket. Incredible.

The Steam Deck is set to ship sometime in December, but fully expect to get your handheld gaming PC sometime in 2022 if you ordered a 256GB or 512GB model.
