Gayme of the Week: Robin Morningwood Adventure is as NSFW as it sounds
Robin Morningwood Adventure is a game that I came across while browsing Steam and found myself realizing almost 2 whole minutes in that ‘oh, this is a horny game!’ Perhaps I should have taken the time to 1, watch the trailer and 2, read tags like a normal person.
Oh well! Never one to be turned off by dicks or butt fun, I continued my exploration of Whellcum, a village full of nothing but gay bears, very NSFW items for sale and underwear thieves. Perhaps not all in that order, but you get the gist.
You play as Robin, an adventurer who many of the village believes to be the chosen one. There’s been a terrible evil that has beset the king of Whellcum that’s made him so lustful that it’s started off a series of events that have led to the enemy rushing Whellcum and giving the villagers quite a beating. And by beating I mean absolutely ravishing them to the point of physical exhaustion.
Because of these hooligans causing such ruckus, Whellcum has fallen into devastation. As the newcomer, you’ll need to pull your weight to not only fix up your house, but the wrecked stores and streets too.
You’d be forgiven for thinking that this game just looks like a game for someone to get their rocks off and well, yeah this certainly is a game that’s looking to do that… But it isn’t looking to do just that. Robin Morningwood Adventure does call itself a gay RPG, after all. And there’s certainly a lot of choices to make, even with the game currently just being in Early Access.
One choice is picking out a love interest, though the full list has yet to be confirmed and there’s only so much you can see in the demo. But there are people who you can smooch, though you’ll have to go out of your way to get to know the residents first. I chose Hubert, the guy who runs the local inn and offers you tea to help you ‘cool down’ in combat. He seemed a nice enough fella, and he even has a tragic backstory! Gotta love one of those. I’d only got the first romance scene with Hubert, but it promised some compelling things for the future.
It isn’t just all about romance and fixing things, though. There are also minigames that you can play: a memory game that has you picking the right sigil, a puzzle game that asks you to pick the right shape to fill in the hole left in the wall, and even a woodchopping game. Truly, the only thing missing is a fishing minigame, but who knows if that’s not being included in the full-game.
And then there’s the combat…
Combat in Robin Morningwood Adventure focuses on who can get who to bust a nut first. If you get your enemy to reach release first, then you win the battle. Of course, if the enemy gets you all hot and bothered first, then you lose.
What I really appreciated about the combat – outside of the gratuitous amount of abs – was that it very much works like foreplay and then, the act of sex. While Robin Morningwood Adventure doesn’t quite have the same aesthetic as Robert Yang’s games exploration of sexuality, the fact that it lets players explore gay sex and eroticism is something that Grizzly Gamer Studio should be commended for. It’s something that triple-A games haven’t even touched, even with the inclusion of gay romance options.
Currently, the game is yet to be released on Steam, but you can access its demo on the platform. Of course, there’s always itch.io – which has the full early access game available for you to play for $32. Considering it’s a full RPG, with a ton of replay value, we’re sure you’re going to get a lot of bang for your buck.
