Can You Be Gay in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios is set in the vast and wonderful world of the Forgotten Realms from Dungeons and Dragons. Previous Baldur’s Gate games haven’t exactly been great at LGBTQ+ representation. It did try in the second game, but ultimately it wasn’t what people were looking for. Step in Larian Studios, who have confirmed that, like their Divinity Original Sin games, yes, you can be gay in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Players take on the role of a hero who ilithid Mind Flayers have kidnaped. Taken upon their ship, the Mind Flayers insert a tadpole in your head that, inevitably, will also transform you into a Mind Flayer unless you yoink that sucker out fast. With only a limited amount of time on your hands, you and your companions (who also have a tadpole in their heads) must venture further into the world to discover how to free yourself from the illithid’s influence.

Can you be gay in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Baldur’s Gate 3 comes with character customization, and players are encouraged to create their own characters and background. Not only are you able to change your pronouns and voice, allowing you to play as a non-binary character if you so choose to, but you can customize your body shape and genitals too. This was similar to Cyberpunk 2077, but unlike CD Projekt Red’s game, customizing your genitals and voice does not automatically change your gender. All in all, Larian Studios have created a character creator that is vast and inventive. But how does that relate to whether or not you can be gay in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Throughout your time in the world of Faerûn, players will encounter companions that they can travel with, as well as NPCs, that they will be able to form romantic and/or sexual relationships. It has been confirmed that all of your companions that you can form romantic relationships with are pansexual, meaning that no matter whether you’re a non-binary dwarf or a femme fatale Dragonborn, the people you meet will fall in love with you.
