Queer-focussed game Read Only Memories returns in comic form
The queer and diverse Read Only Memories universe is set to expand with an all-new comic book series, set to begin releasing in monthly instalments starting December 2019. Plus, a Limited Run physical Nintendo Switch release ofΒ 2064: Read Only MemoriesΒ will also release later this year!
Launched in 2015, Read Only Memories was a single-player adventure game that explores Neo-San Francisco in 2064. Players explored Neo-SF to uncover its mysteries and dive deep into the dark heart of the city. As new areas were unlocked the player encountered new characters to interact with, partner with, or fight against. The game featured prominent LGBTQ characters, a rarity at the time, and its design was mainly inspired by cyberpunk themes of the 80βs, and adventure games of the 90βs such as Sam & Max, Maniac Mansion, Snatcher, and The Secret of Monkey Island.

Now you can return to the colorful cyberpunk future of Read Only Memories in a brand new storyΒ involving sentient AI, love and a web of conspiracy. Taking place in the years betweenΒ 2064: Read Only MemoriesΒ and the upcomingΒ Read Only Memories: Neurodiver, the next mystery adventure game in the Read Only Memories universe, IDWβs series features Lexi Rivers, formerly a detective and now a private investigator. When a robot arrives at her door seeking a lost lover, she is drawn into a journey to the seemingly peaceful beaches of Santa Cruz.
Each issue of the adventure will feature full-color illustrations byΒ Stefano Simeone, who has also worked with Dark Horse, Boom! Studios and The Walt Disney Company on properties includingΒ Star Wars. The story will be woven by the prolificΒ Sina Grace, a veteranΒ who has written for comic series including MarvelβsΒ Uncanny X-MenΒ andΒ Iceman.

βWeβre blessed to work with extremely talented creators for our first foray into media outside of video games. The Read Only Memories universe still has a lot of room to explore diversity and inclusion through the richness of the world and the relatable characters that inhabit it. Bringing other creatives on board to help explore everything the setting has to offer is the logical next step.β
