Tako no Himitsu – A Game Boy Advance-inspired RPG Adventure
Tako no Himitsu is an action RPG made as a tribute to the Game Boy Advance era of gaming and it’s in Kickstarter right now!
Embark on a quest to save a world consumed by the shadows of its past. Play as six different characters and uncover their stories and traumas as you explore a troubled land beset by shadow monsters.
Befriend and train magical octopuses, the heroes of the past! Teach them spells that can aid in battle or help solve puzzles whilst exploring the world. Enter the octopus fountain (a Chao Garden inspired mini game) to train and take care of them.
Strategize in real-time combat and fight the shadow monsters plaguing the land. Set-up your party, swap between different characters to adapt and gain the upper hand, and in classic RPG fashion level up your heroes and keep ahead of your enemies with new equipment.
Explore a vast, troubled world and learn the secrets of its past as you travel across the land. Discover the truth of the Shadow War and meet memorable characters in a great adventure to restore light to the land.
In Tako no Himitsu, your goal is to confront the unspoken: toxic secrets that those in power use to shape history to their liking. You join a cast of survivors working through their own troubles on a quest to save the world at large, in an epic yet intimate story about queerness, trauma, and revolution.
With music from Motoi Sakuraba (Golden Sun) and Masanori Hikichi (Terranigma), a 90 minute demo for the game is available now on Steam.
In Tako no Himitsu: Ocean of Secrets, the developers want to represent queer culture, and especially the art of drag, in the best way possible, adapting it to their fantasy JRPG universe. The prequel game to this, Save me Mr Tako, had some drag representation in the city of the arts, Ydor, and in this game drag has spread all over the world with an annual legendary drag contest taking place in the desert ruins of the former theater of Ydor.
In Tako no Himitsu, the drag career arc is one of the main storylines of the game, carried by the character Karan. Here the character will be able to meet cameos from real life drag performers who have been captured in gorgeous GBA style!
Every day of the Kickstarter campaign, the developer’s Twitter account will be revealing a new drag artist who will appear in the game. Day one saw the reveal of everyone’s favorite gamer queer, DEERE!
Tako no Himitsu is in Kickstarter now and is live until Thursday, August 8th. Check out their page and support this amazing project now!
