The RuneScape TTRPG and board game is out today

RuneScape continues to get bigger and better than ever before, today releasing its tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) and board game adaptations under the banner of RuneScape Kingdoms.

With the helpful collaboration of Steamforged Games, the leading UK studio for tabletop video game adaptations, like Ni No Kuni 2 and Monster Hunter World, Jagex invites players to step inside the record-breaking RuneScape video game universe — but for tabletop. There they’ll find classic quests and fan-favourite characters aplenty.

The TTRPG is titled RuneScape Kingdoms: The Roleplaying Game, whereas the board game is RuneScape Kingdoms: Shadow of Elvarg. Both were first announced in 2022, with the latter being originally crowdfunded for on Kickstarter. It was met with great success and attracted more than 6,600 backers. And now, both are here, ready for your purchase.

“We’re looking forward to getting the RuneScape Kingdoms board game and tabletop roleplaying game into the hands of fans and seeing the response!” Mat Hart, co-founder and Creative Director at Steamforged Games, said. “We’ve worked very closely with Jagex to make RuneScape Kingdoms an authentic addition to the RuneScape family, as another way for new and existing fans to engage with the world they love. It’s been a special collaboration, from concept to the finished games.”

RuneScape Kingdoms: The Roleplaying Game uses a system called Bespoke, which was specifically created for the TTRPG. It incorporates a three d6 dice mechanic, and has been designed to be accessible and elegant, all while capturing the unique atmosphere and magic that makes up the RuneScape source material.

Also included is a core rulebook that will be helpful for both players and Game Masters due to its detailed guide to the world of Gielinor. With its help, GMs will have more than enough material to run an authentic RuneScape campaign, and be able to provide assistance with character creation, as well as systems like prayer, magic, bestiary, and even crafting and equipment. There’s something for everyone here.

As for RuneScape Kingdoms: The Shadow of Elvarg, this board game consists of 1-5 players who will explore the magical world of Gielinor in cooperative campaigns. These campaigns are heavily inspired by the source material of the video game, so expect to meet some iconic monsters and bosses along the way.

Both RuneScape Kingdoms: The Roleplaying Game and RuneScape Kingdoms: The Shadow of Elvarg are available now from AmazonSteamforged, the RuneScape merchandise store, and hundreds of independent tabletop stores.
