Doctor Who shares new Jinkx Monsoon villain look to celebrate the queen’s birthday

On Monday, the Doctor Who Instagram account posted a new image of Jinkx Monsoon in their villainous outfit for the upcoming season to celebrate the drag and Broadway star’s 36th birthday. In a towering red wig and flowing black dress, they’re giving big Bette Midler in Hocus Pocus energy, though the piano key accents indicate this villain will have a musical leaning.

“Villainous chic! Wishing a very happy birthday to @thejinkx, joining the #DoctorWho cast in the upcoming series 🥳,” the Doctor Who account tweeted.

We first got a look at what Jinkx Monsoon would be wearing in the upcoming Doctor Who season when the BBC debuted images of the outfit back in April. The article also revealed that her character is set to be the Doctor’s “most powerful enemy yet.” Jinxk Monsoon joins other iconic queer actors in this season, Yasmin Finley of Heartstopper fame and Ncuti Gatwa from Sex Education. The latter is taking the helm as the new Doctor, while the former is playing a new Rose.

Jinkx Monsoon is probably best know for her historic two winning runs of RuPaul’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars, but she has a pretty extensive resume these days. She had her own Funny or Die series, and has since gone on to star in a Broadway production of Chicago as Matron ‘Mama’ Morton. They are the first drag queen to ever star on Broadway, and broke box office records during their time in the show.

Doctor Who’s next season will premiere in November 2023, so fans don’t have too much longer to wait to see this dynamic cast in action.
