Baldur’s Gate 3 mod offers more options for trans men

The character creation for Baldur’s Gate 3 is far from being simplistic, but what really makes it stand out is how inclusive it is of trans and other queer identities. In the game’s character creation, genitals, voice, and pronouns are entirely separate from one another, making this fantasy RPG stand out even among giants like CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 and Bethesda’s Starfield — with both games making the mistake of using body types and voice to correspond with pronouns and identity.

However, there is always room for improvement, and this one mod from creator Noctilumi (via Nexus Mods) strives to do just that by offering trans men more body options that fit their characters across a variety of races.

Titled ‘(TMTS) Transmasc Top Surgery for Body 3 AND Body 1’, Noctilumi’s mod flattens the chest of Body 3 and 1 for Human, Half-Elf, Drow, Elf, and Tiefling, all while altering the textures to match the body type. According to Noctilumi, the flattening of the chest was done in order to make the body look akin to “having had top surgery.” However, as of now, there are no surgery scars involved in this mod.

What should be noted is that, when installing this mod, it may not work for all of Baldur’s Gate 3’s clothing options as these cosmetics have separate meshes.

Thankfully, Noctilumi has your back in that regard too, with their other mod: (TMTS) Transmasc Clothing Pack for Body 1 and Body 3. This adds clothing options, such as the base camp clothes, as well as camp clothes from Astarion, Shadowheart, and Lae’zel.

With this thoughtful mod’s inclusion, as well as Larian Studio’s willingness to make changes to Baldur’s Gate 3 after launch, we can’t help but wonder if there will be more trans and queer-inclusive changes to the game’s character creator in the future. Only time will tell.
