The Expanse – A Telltale Series launches today

Fans of narrative games and sci-fi, look to eat well today with the launch of the first episode of The Expanse – A Telltale Series.

The Expanse is a sci-fi series from author James S. A. Corey and Ty Franck which has also been developed into an award-winning television series, available to watch on Amazon Prime Video and iTunes. The series is set hundreds of years in the future, just after humankind has completely colonized the solar system. What starts as a missing person’s mystery soon spirals out of control into a race across the solar system, one that may just expose a great conspiracy of human history.

However, Telltale’s game series is set prior to those events. Players will take on the role of Camina Dummer – played by actress Cara Gee in both the game, as well as the TV series. Camina is the XO of a scavenger crew who is on the hunt for a mysterious treasure on the edges of The Belt; a region of the Sol System.

In the TV series, Camina has been established as pragmatic and can be seen as rather ruthless at times, but her popularity certainly hasn’t waned ever since her introduction back in Season 2 of The Expanse. What’s interesting is that Camina has been established as being polyamorous, with a handful of husbands and wives in the show, though whether this will play a part of her character in the Telltale game is not yet known.

In The Expanse – A Telltale Series, Camina will have to deal with a mix of powerful personalities who may not always have her best interests at heart, square off against a bloody mutiny, and explore locations beyond The Belt. More importantly, she’ll need to make the tough decisions necessary to decide the fate of her beloved crew on The Artemis. and, most of all, make tough decisions that will decide the fate of The Artemis crew.

“The Deck Nine team put so much of themselves into this game because we are huge Expanse fans,” said Stephan Frost, Game Director at Deck Nine. “We wanted to make a game that felt like playing an episode of the TV show with a character we love. Working with Cara Gee, Telltale, and Alcon has been an amazing experience, and we hope you come to love these characters as you walk in Drummer’s magboots throughout the game.”

The next four episodes of the game will be released every two weeks, and, if you want something a little extra, players an purchase the Deluxe Edition of the game to receive the ‘Archangel’ bonus episode. It features Shohreh Aghdashloo, reprising her role as Chrisjen Avasarala, Secretary-General of the United Nations in The Expanse TV series.

The Expanse – A Telltale Series is available to play today for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
