No new Overwatch 2 story levels are coming this year
On a recent livestream interview with former Overwatch League pro Jeff “emongg” Anderson, Overwatch 2 executive producer Jared Neuss said that fans should not expect any additional story content for the FPS after its initial three story levels launch in the game in August.
“Don’t expect the next round in the next season or the season after that, or anything like that,” Neuss said on the stream. “But it is very much like trying to find that balance between getting it in front of players quickly, because we love that story stuff, and giving ourselves enough time to make changes or add features, or do whatever, to make them more compelling.”
The upcoming narrative content for Overwatch 2 is called Overwatch 2: Invasion, and it will release on August 10. In these missions, various characters from the game are investigating why their enemy organization Null Sector has been kidnapping Omnics. These missions are part of a larger update that is set to include co-op modes, the story mission content, and more.
Fans were initially unhappy with the Overwatch 2: Invasion announcement because Blizzard stated in a blog post that players would have to pay $15 for the Overwatch 2: Invasion Bundle to have access to the three story missions. This news came soon after Blizzard announced that its long-awaited PvE mode had been cancelled, leaving fans disappointed. Now it seems that OW2 players will have to wait until next year at the earliest for any additional story content for the FPS once the Invasion Bundle launches on August 10.
