The HER Galaxy $100k Apex Legends Open grand finals are this weekend

This weekend will see the grand finals for the HER Galaxy Apex Legends Open, an all women tournament with a $100,000 prize pool. This is the largest-ever prize pool for a women’s Apex Legends competition.

The HER Galaxy Apex Legends Open is a tournament for women-identified players that was put on by Galaxy Racer and supported by EA. The tournament series kicked off in April, and faced some prior controversy over a transgender player’s identity. That player was disqualified and then reinstated after the organizers mistakenly removed them due to complaints about their gender identity.

The HER Galaxy Apex Legends Open features teams consisting of both amateur and professional players. More than 400 women-identifying gamers across 140+ teams entered the tournament. Ten teams have already secured their places in Sunday’s grand finals. There are ten remaining spots, which the 30 remaining teams will fight for during the games on Saturday. Those who take the top-ten placements on Saturday will move onto the 20-team grand finals on Sunday. Everyone who competes in the grand finals will receive at least some prize money. Whoever comes out on top on Sunday will take home $40,000, while the top-four will receive at least $10,000. Judy and Andrew Kristensen (aka HisandHersLive), who frequently organize community Apex Legends tournaments, will be commentating the event and conducting interviews with teams.

There are currently several professional women Apex Legends players still in contention to reach the grand finals on Sunday, including TSM’s Laurice “GuhRL” Habibi and Jane “ItzJaney” Newstead, LuLuLuvley, Claraatwork, Acie, Babynikki, and Avuhlie. They’ll be facing off against amateur teams that are gunning for them, such as Aftermath, THE GORLZ and PredaHERS.

The lower finals on Saturday will start at 6 p.m. ET, and the grand finals will start on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET. The competition on Saturday will be streamed on the HisandHersLive Twitch channel, while the action on Sunday will be dualcasted on both the Galaxy Racer and HisandHersLive channels.
