Redfall is the new open-world, first-person shooter from Arkane, the studio behind the Dishonored series and Prey reboot. After a delay, the game is finally out in the wild. In it players are stranded in the town of Redfall, on an island that has been cut off from the mainland by a legion of vampires and their powerful gods that are laying siege to the town. With survival on the line, it’s up to you — and your friends, if you decide to play in the game’s co-op mode — to hunt these bloodsuckers down by any means necessary.
Now, we all know that vampires are some of the sexiest of the creatures that go bump in the night, so we have to ask: can you be gay in this game?
Can you be gay in Redfall?
Unfortunately you cannot be gay in Redfall. You actually can’t have any kinds of romantic relationships in the game, which was confirmed by the developer in a video called “Bringing Redfall to Life with Arkane Austin.” These vampires are those who chose to become monsters, and the game is all about demonstrating that.
“None of them are romantic interests,” one developer said.
Though many of the monsters we meet might be beautiful, it is an entirely self-centered beauty focused on manifesting the image they want for themselves, rather than one meant to attract or entice others.
There are four human characters players can pilot through this spooky world, but none of them are romance options either. This makes sense, as everyone is more focused on fighting for their lives than sneaking smooches in the moonlight.
