Cabernet is a new and inclusive horror RPG

In Cabernet, it’s the 19th century, and you are a very hungry vampire.

Party for Introverts has revealed Cabernet, a 2D narrative RPG set in 19th century Eastern Europe. Players take on th role of Liza, a young vampire who since being turned has struggled with her morality and the intoxicating supernatural world that she’s been thrust into. Thankfully, she’s got more than a fair few of the aristocracy to pick and choose from, though they – and their humanity – could be a little too rich for her tastes.

As a vampire, Liza has access to a range of different abilities. Her vampiric powers range from shifting into a bat, becoming invisible, or even hypnotizing people so that she can snack on their neck. It’s ultimately up to the player to either encourage Liza’s more beastly nature, or restrain herself from being consumed entirely by the thrill of the hunt.

Players should expect some pretty gnarly themes in this horror RPG, such as alcoholism, corruption and from the sounds of it, rich people continuing to be the worst people ever. If you ask us, it sounds like your average Monday.

Liza can make friends, allies and enemies during the game, and there will even be romance options for player characters. And yes, because we just had to ask, we reached out to PR and the dev team and are pleased to let you know there will even be some LGBTQ+ themes and characters. The Hussar

“The Hussar character is gay, and there currently is a romanceable option for Liza with the female vampire, Alisa.” Party for Introvert’s Arseniy Klishin and Laura Gray told Gayming Magazine. According to Gray there is also a story following another character, Petya, which includes some elements from Els White’s, one of the game’s writers, perspective as a member of the trans community.

“Developing Petya’s story was really interesting for me. There’s a lot of nuance I wanted to bring out with his experience of gender, both internally and externally.  I spent a lot of time talking with Arseniy and Laura about it.” White stated. “What I really liked was comparing my experiences as a trans man with Arseniy’s as [a cis one with a “non-manly” career], and using that to come up with Petya’s unique story. Not to mention, thinking about the time period and how that’d affect his feelings too…I put a lot of love and care into him, so I hope people like him. He’s a sweetie.”

Cabernet is set to release for PC sometime in 2024.
