TITANS is DC’s new headlining superhero team
On Wednesday, comic author Tom Taylor announced that he will be working with artist Nicola Scott on a new superhero team series for DC Comics called TITANS. The series seems to be the new flagship for the comics publisher in terms of super hero teams, from what Taylor said in his announcement tweet.
“The Justice League have disbanded. It is time for a new premier superhero team in
@DCComics,” Taylor tweeted. “Excited to announce I’m teaming up with my friend, and one of the greatest artists on the planet, @NicolaScottArt, on TITANS!”
Based on what Taylor wrote and the graphic he posted with the tweet, it looks like the DC TITANS series will follow a superhero group comprised of mostly Teen Titans alumni, with Cyborg, Beast Boy, Nightwing, Raven, and Starfire all featuring in the team graphic. A member of the Wonder Woman superhero line and one of the Flashes are also part of this team.
The former sidekicks are taking things over after the events of DC’s last big arc, Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths. This storyline saw the return of the heroes we’re used to, like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, but the Justice League is now on a permanent hiatus. Instead, the TITANS are taking up the reins, with Dick Grayson as Nightwing at the helm.
Taylor is a prolific comics writer, having worked on multiple iconic franchises including Superman, Nightwing, Spider-Man, and Star Wars. LGBTQ+ comics fans may already be familiar with his work, as he wrote issue #17 of Superman: Son of Kal-El that featured Jon Kent coming out to his father as bisexual following Clark’s return to Earth after liberating Warworld.
Nicola Scott is a comics artist who has worked on multiple properties, including Black Magick, Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey, Superman, and Detective Comics. She has a particular affinity for Wonder Woman, so it will be exciting to see how she draws that character the DC TITANS series.
