Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant reunites our favourite sapphic couple

Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant is a sequel to hack-and-slash roguelike, Sword of the Necromancer. In this new and upcoming game, our favourite sapphic couple Tama and Koko are reunited for another adventure.

The original, and prequel to Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant, put players in the role of Tama,  a mercenary and the bodyguard, and Koko, the High Priestess of Nodam. After travelling together the two women grew close and eventually fell in love, but then tragedy struck and Koko perished. Not willing to give her up, Tama took her beloved to the Crypt of the Necromancer in search for the Sword that will bring Koko back to life. Spoilers ahead: the two do have a happy ending, though not without plenty of heartbreak before.

However Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant is a brand new sequel, one that a quick look at the game’s trailer shows us will take on not just a new protagonist, but plenty of different features that weren’t part of the original game.

Currently we do not know who the protagonist is outside of him wanting the Sword of the Necromancer that Tama and Koko shut away previously. If taking into account how the original game had you swap point of views, it’s highly likely that he may not be a protagonist after all, but a villain. Take that speculation with a pinch of salt though.

As for the game’s new features, Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant describes itself as a “third-person 3D Action RPG with Dungeon Crawler sections.” Certainly a departure from the original which had nothing but dungeon crawler sections. There also seems to be a new battle and companion system, as well as a city-building feature that players will take part of to help restore the city of Euda.

It seems there will be a lot of differences from the original game, but at least players will see old friendly faces, Tama and Koko, in-game. What role they’ll have to play in Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant remains to be seen.

A release date for Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant is yet to be announced.
