Roller Drama gets January release date

On Monday, Open Lab Games announced that their upcoming title Roller Drama will release on January 26 across multiple platforms, including Steam (with Deck compatibility), Nintendo Switch, Google Play, and the App Store. PlayStation and Xbox versions of the game will be available sometime later, though no official date has been revealed for that.

Roller Drama is a visual novel and sports management sim hybrid where players take on the role of Joan, the live-in coach for a top roller derby team. It’s up to you to wrangle the five players on this team: Anne, Portia, Lily, Cordelia, and Juliet. It’s up to you to help these five navigate matches, along with the trials of day-to-day life, like rivalries, love, and friendships.

The gameplay of Roller Drama is split between the roller derby matches and the slice-of-life sections. During matches, you’ll use arcade-style controls to take over real-time roller derby events. That said, the developers have made it clear that this isn’t just a roller derby simulator. According to Open Lab Games, Roller Dramas “match gameplay is inspired by Roller Derby but it then defines its own kind of game.” During the day-to-day sections, you’ll have to deal with the usual hustle and bustle of life, alongside regular disturbances caused by your friendly neighborhood dystopian surveillance state. These sections allow players to make meaningful choices (of which there are apparently about 100) which ultimately lead to one of multiple endings.

Players will be able to check out this dystopian, roller derby life sim very soon, as it skates its way onto PC, Nintendo Switch, the Google Play Store, and the App Store on January 26. Hopefully information about the PlayStation and Xbox version release dates will come from Open Lab Games soon, but for now we know these are planned to come out sometime relatively soon.
