Team Overture announces charity Valorant tournament
On Sunday, stream team Team Overture announced that they are organizing a charity Valorant tournament to benefit Trans Women of Color Collective in February called “Be My VALOtine.” The announcement lined up with the official Valorant account announcing that two of its female agents, Raze and Killjoy, have romantic feelings towards each other with some lovely art.
This will be Team Overture’s first-ever Valorant tournament, as they have primarily focused on Apex Legends events up to this point. The stream team have put on seven Apex Legends tournaments to date, all of which were by and for LGBTQ+/BIPOC players. These events have raised over $43,000 for charity as well. Now Team Overture have their sights set on bringing these inclusive events to the Valorant scene.
Trans Women of Color Collective, the organization the Be My VALOtine tournament will benefit, aims to “uplift the narratives, leadership, and lived experiences of trans people of color, while building towards the collective liberation of all oppressed people.” They have multiple support programs for trans folks of color, including a health initiative, community funds, and a healing and restorative justice initiative.
The Be My VALOtine tournament will take place on February 11, 2023. Sign-ups are open now and close on January 15. Note that only players with North American Riot Games accounts will be able to participate, due to region locking. Eight teams of five people will compete in a single elimination tournament, meaning that a single loss will knock a team out of the competition. Prospective participants can sign up with a full team of five, or as individuals. If you’re signing up as a team, each person will need to fill out an application form.
Those interested in signing up for the Team Overture Be My VALOtine have until January 15 to register. Once registered, additional details will be distributed to participants via email.
