Osiris and Saint 14 finally kiss onscreen in Destiny 2 Season 18 finale
The eighteenth season of Destiny 2 will wrap up on December 6, but fans have already seen the season’s final cutscene, which rehashes the recent story content, and shows long-standing characters Osiris and Saint 14 kissing onscreen for the first time in the franchise’s history.
This kiss was not the reveal of the pairing of Osiris and Saint 14, nor was it the first time it’s been made canon to the storyline of Destiny 2. Back in November of 2020, Destiny 2 writer Robert Brookes posted a thread on Twitter discussing the importance of bisexual and LGBTQ+ representation in general. The thread was in part also about the relationship between Osiris and Saint 14.
“Back when I joined Bungie I always felt Saint-14 and Osiris were romantically involved because, as a queer man, their romance made sense to me. I learned my interpretation was in fact correct when I became a narrative designer for the company and I was overjoyed,” Brookes wrote in the thread. “I’ve been writing Saint and Osiris as gay since I started working at Bungie, because that’s who they were before. They are private and nuanced characters. There was never a space in which to unequivocally state their identities. But nuance is lost in an age of queerbaiting…So yes, Saint and Osiris are gay. Always have been. You can make the meme yourselves.”
This post confirmed that Osiris and Saint 14 are, in fact, a romantic couple in the world of Destiny 2, but despite that, we hadn’t gotten to really see their relationship in action. The Season 18 final cutscene has changed that, as it puts their romance front and center. In it, Saint 14 narrates recent events, including Osiris, his “phoenix” awakening at last. He goes on to explain how the energy allowed him to experience Savathun’s thoughts and feelings, but when he first wakes up, his attention is only for his lover.
“But when he first opened his eyes, his words were only ‘Saint, my love.’ That was all, and it was enough.”
The two then share a tender, onscreen kiss as birds take flight behind them.
