Netflix hosted ‘WednesGay’ party featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni to celebrate Wednesday series
Fittingly, on Wednesday, November 9, Netflix hosted an event it called the WednesGay party to celebrate its upcoming series about the Addam’s Family’s own Wednesday Addams, Wednesday. The party was hosted by MOST in Los Angeles with Ts Madison as the MC, and featured several RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni, including Gottmik, Mo Heart, Violet Chachki, and Crystal Methyd.
The drag performers were challenged to show off their best Wednesday Addams-inspired looks. They performed live in these gothic outfits, in addition to spinning by New York’s DJ Oscar Nn. The event also included photo ops, wig giveaways, and catering. Fans also got to check out the Addams Family hearse created in collaboration with West Coast Customs. It’s a 1950 Cadillac Hearse Edition that has been modified in theme with the show, including a red LED grill insert, vulture shaped hood ornament, side mirrors shaped like bat wings, and window coverings that look like spiders.
The Netflix Wednesday series’ first, eight episode season is set to premiere on the streaming service on November 23. It comes from the imagination of Tim Burton, and stars Jenna Ortega as the titular goth girl, Christina Ricci as Marilyn Thornhill, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams. The show follows Wednesday as she attends Nevermore Academy and grapples with her newly emerging psychic powers. Along the way, it falls to her to put an end to a local killing spree and solve a mystery her parents were embroiled in 25 years ago.
Fans will be able to check Wednesday out on Netflix later this month. In the meantime, they can enjoy the photos and performances from the WednesGay party, where some of the most famous drag queens out there paid homage to the spooky show.
